Whiteville Tobs

From BR Bullpen

The only professional baseball team in the history of Whiteville, NC was the Whiteville Tobs. They played one season, in the 1950 Tobacco State League. Under manager Jim Staton, the unaffiliated club finished last in the 8-team league at 39-92-1 and drew 20,839 fans, 6th in the league. They were 7th in runs (665) while they allowed the most runs (954). Ernie Novack (7-7, 2.85) was clearly the best pitcher, while OF Granville Denning (.374/~.485/.496) led the loop in batting average.

Tobs is short for Tobacconists, and the team is also sometimes refered to under the full name.
