Wellsville Senators

From BR Bullpen

In 1950 the Wellsville Nitros of the PONY League changed their name to the Wellsville Senators when they became a farm team of the Charlotte Hornets in the Washington Senators' farm system. Based in Wellsville, NY, they went 50-75 and finished 7th of eight teams. They drew 35,874 fans, sixth in the league, and were managed by Jimmy Wasdell and Bill Mongiello (who took over on July 26). Wellsville allowed 872 runs while scoring 680 - no other team in the PONY League allowed more that year. No player had a standout season or went on to a great career. They became the Wellsville Rockets in 1951 when their one-year connection to Washington ended.
