Biographical Information[edit]

Wei-Ming Chu pitched in the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 5 years.

Chu was a 7th-round draft pick of the Chinatrust Whales in the 2003 CPBL Draft. He debuted in 2005 and went 2-1 with a 1.09 ERA in 36 games. That earned him a spot on Taiwan's roster for the 2006 World Baseball Classic. In the Classic, he tossed 2 2/3 shutout innings, with 3 strikeouts. Only Wei-Lun Pan and Po-Hsuan Keng had 0.00 ERAs for Taiwan in more innings. Chu went 6-5 with a 4.37 ERA for the 2006 Whales and was 7-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 2007. In 2008, Wei-Ming posted a 4-5, 3.46 record. When the Whales folded in a gambling scandal, Chu was picked by the Uni-President Lions in the first round of the player dispersal draft. He fell to 7-4 with a 6.18 ERA in 2009. Chu was released by the Lions after the 2009 season, and his career ended. After retiring, Chu became a high school coach. He coached Yeang-Der Senior High School from 2016 to 2017 and Trung-Yi High School in 2018.

Overall, Chu was 26-17 with a 3.89 ERA, struck out 239 and pitched 398 innings in 163 appearances in 5 seasons in the CPBL.

Chu's repertoire includes a slider, splitter and fastball (peak time of 93 mph).
