Biographical Information[edit]
Starting pitcher Wayne Haynes played in the minor leagues from 1946 to 1950.
He was 11 for 56 as an outfielder for the 1946 Statesville Cubs. He did not play in 1947 then became a pitcher. With the Forest City Owls in 1948, he went 20-12 with a 3.68 ERA in 44 games. He was second in the Western Carolina League in wins, one behind Ray Lindsay and led with 44 games pitched. The next year, he was 16-11 with a 5.31 ERA in 39 games for the Rutherford County Owls (tied for 4th in the WCL in wins) and in 1950, he was 14-6 with a 4.63 mark in 29 games for the Marion Marauders (tied for 5th in victories). Overall, he went 50-29 with a 4.51 ERA in 112 games.
He was a Baptist minister for over 50 years in North Carolina.
