"Ancker, when he was here year before last, won several games and exhibited a great drop ball and a good fast ball." - from a Union News-Dispatch article on June 12, 1919 about Ancker coming back to the Binghamton team
Walter Ancker pitched four games for the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics; he was 18 years younger than teammate Nap Lajoie. He started that year pitching for an independent team in New Jersey, and threw two no-hitters.The Sporting Life of April 1, 1916 indicates that Ancker was optioned out to Asheville for the upcoming season. He later pitched for Binghamton in 1917 and 1919. An article in the Binghamton Press on April 5, 1922, indicates that Walter Ancker and Jack Ancker had both joined Elmira.
