Biographical Information[edit]

Walt Williams pitched in the Atlanta Braves system from 1986 to 1988. He was taken by the club in the 17th round of the 1986 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Erik Bennett.

In his first campaign, he was 3-2 with an 8.08 ERA in 12 games (8 starts) for the Pulaski Braves. In 45 2/3 innings, he allowed 47 hits and 44 walks, while striking out 35 batters. In 1987, he was 9-8, 3.96 in 30 games (23 starts) between two clubs. Though he averaged less than a hit allowed per inning, he walked 94 batters in 147 2/3 frames. In 1988, he was 3-6 with a 5.88 ERA in 30 games (6 starts) between two teams. With 71 hits and 59 walks allowed in 64 1/3 innings, he posted a 2.021 WHIP. Overall, he was 15-16 with a 5.17 ERA in 72 games (37 starts). In 257 2/3 innings, he allowed 254 hits and 197 walks (1.750 WHIP), while striking out 198 batters. He never played beyond Single A.
