Walter Rabb was the baseball coach at the University of North Carolina for 31 years (1947-1977), leading the team to a 540-358 record. He took the Tar Heels to four NCAA tournaments and two College World Series appearances.
Rabb was a shortstop who played four seasons in the minor leagues, one with the New York Yankees system. Rabb debuted in 1937 with the Snow Hill Billies, batting .242 with 0 HR and 26 RBI. In 1938, Walt fielded .953 for Snow Hill and hit .309/?/.399. Rabb split 1939 between Snow Hill (.322, 1 HR, 7 RBI) and two Yankee farm teams, the Akron Yankees (.233, 0 HR, 18 RBI) and Augusta Tigers (.271, 1 HR, 34 RBI). In his final season, Rabb returned to Snow Hill full-time and batted .270 with 3 homers and 49 RBI.
