Biographical Information[edit]

Wallace "Wally" Smith was with the Vancouver Beavers for a couple of years before coming to the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1911 and 1912 as a frequently-used back-up infielder. Roger Bresnahan was his manager both years. After spending 1913 in the minors, at least partly with the Atlanta Crackers, he was back in the majors with the Washington Senators in 1914, where he was the same age as teammate Walter Johnson.

Thereafter he spent years in the minors, including five seasons with the Minneapolis Millers.

While a major league rookie, Wally and his team were on a train that had a major wreck. The players were credited with saving many lives. [1]
