Biographical Information[edit]
Wally Reinecker played three games at third base for the 1915 Baltimore Terrapins of the 1915 Federal League. Sporting Life (09-25-15) made a point of stating that Reinecker wasn't his real name, saying that he was playing "under the cognomen of Walter Reinecker". The issue also stated that he was no relation to Terrapins player Jimmy Smith, thus making it clear that Wally normally went by the name of Smith. It is possible that the Terrapins didn't want to have two Smiths in the infield, which could cause some confusion, and so asked Wally if he could use another name. It is also possible that the team didn't want him confused with another Wally Smith who was a contemporary of Wally Reinecker.
