Biographical Information

In 1951, Virgil Jester helped lead the Milwaukee Brewers to the American Association pennant, then won three games over the International League champion Montreal Royals in the 1951 Junior World Series. Up with the Boston Braves in 1952, he went 3-5, including one shutout, in 19 games. On September 27th, he was the winning pitcher in the last victory for the Braves before their relocation to Milwaukee, 11-3, over the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Virgil then pitched in two more games in relief for the team in 1953 after its move, before his career was cut short by arm problems in 1954. He went to work for a meat-packing company in his hometown of Denver, CO. He was out of baseball for four seasons (1955-1958), later making a brief comeback attempt with the American Association Denver Bears team located there in 1959. He came up with a 3-2 record with a 4.22 ERA in 14 appearances and this ended his nine-year baseball career with an overall minor league record of 70-60 with a 4.21 ERA.

After baseball, Jester was a milk route salesman, a vending machine company salesman, in the solar heating business and in the plant and flower business. He resided in Westminster, CO before his death.
