Biographical information[edit]
Vinny Rottino hit .410 as a senior in college in 2002, but went undrafted. He enrolled in pharmacy school and played semi-pro ball. Rottino was signed by scout Brian Johnson as a nondrafted free agent in February 2003. He made his pro debut with the Helena Brewers that summer. He was the Brewers' minor league player of the year in 2004, breaking Prince Fielder's Beloit record for RBI.
Rottino was the starting catcher for the Italian national baseball team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He hit his first major league homer at the age of 32, playing for the New York Mets against Clayton Richard of the San Diego Padres on May 26, 2012.
