Biographical Information[edit]
Vince Shields, from New Brunswick, pitched 12 innings for the 1924 St. Louis Cardinals with an ERA of 3.00. He also hit .400 in 5 at-bats.
It was the year Rogers Hornsby hit .424, but the team was well under .500 and no pitcher on the staff won more than 10 games. Shields' ERA was well below the team ERA of 4.15.
Through 2009 he is one of only two major leaguers born in Fredericton, NB with the other one being Larry McLean.
