Biographical Information[edit]

Vince Ferguson reached Triple-A in the 1966 and 1967 seasons, but didn't quite make it to the majors. He signed with the Milwaukee Braves in 1961 and rose through the ranks over his seven pro seasons. His totals in the minors were 55 homers and a .292 batting average. Ferguson also recommended the young Wenty Ford to Braves farm director John Mullen in 1966, and Wenty eventually got his cup of coffee in the majors.

Ferguson was manager of the Bahamian teams that competed at the National Baseball Congress in Wichita, Kansas in 1969. He remained closely involved with the local sports scene throughout his life. He served as president of the Bahamas Baseball Association and the Bahamas Basketball Federation. Perhaps more important, though, was Ferguson's role as an educator. He served as principal and vice-principal at various schools, with a reputation for discipline and integrity.

Ferguson had been suffering from prostate cancer but a heart attack ended his life at age 71. When his many friends heard the news, there was an outpouring of respectful memories.
