Victor Conte
Victor Conte was arrested during the BALCO scandal and served four months in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of distributing steroids in 2005. He was the founder of BALCO, the Burlingame-based company that distributed steroids to elite athletes.
His name resurfaced in the news in 2012 when OF Marlon Byrd was suspended for 50 games for taking a banned substance. Byrd had acknowledged having been a Conte client in the past and having purchased supplements from him. However, Conte claimed no knowledge of Byrd's use of a banned substance and said: "I knew nothing about it until two days ago [...] I just feel bad for Marlon, and I certainly don't want to pile on."
