Biographical Information

Vicente Cafaro was briefly a minor league player.

Cafaro played for the Venezuelan squad in the 2002 World Junior Championship, hitting .375/.487/.688 and fielding perfectly at second base. He was named the All-Star second baseman. He would go on to college in the USA. In 2006, he hit .351 with 59 runs for Wayne State College, winning All-Conference honors at second base. At junior college in '07, he batted .441 with 17 homers and a school-record 88 runs. He won the Rawlings Gold Glove as the best defensive second baseman in the NJCAA.

Transferring to Creighton University for 2008, the Maracay native hit .324. In 2009, he batted .313, fielded .987 and turned the hidden ball trick once. He signed as a free agent with the Texas Rangers. Assigned to the AZL Rangers, Cafaro was 7 for 25 with five walks and two doubles for a solid .280/.438/.360 line in pro ball; he fielded .976 at second.

In 2010, Cafaro moved into the coaching ranks as an infield coach for the Hickory Crawdads. His activities from 2011 to mid-2013 are unknown. During the 2014 college season, Cafaro was a graduate assistant coach with the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles. He returned to Creighton in 2015 as a volunteer assistant coach.

Cafaro joined the San Diego Padres in 2016 and was the infield coach for the AZL Padres in 2016 and one (or both) of the AZL clubs in 2017. In the latter year he also served as the Padres International Player Development Coordinator. In 2018-2019 Cafaro was both a minor league infield instructor and the international coordinator. Cafaro remained in the Coordinator role into the 2025 season. One of his Coordinator duties was to oversee the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at each of the Padres' affiliates.
