Biographical Information[edit]
Veronica Alvarez has been a member of the US women's national team.
Alvarez was a softball player at Villanova University from 2001-2005 and then played softball in Spain. She has also competed in triathlons. Outside of sports, she is an administrator for the Miami Dade County Public Schools. She later worked as a firefighter and paramedic in Hollywood, FL. She was a catcher for the USA in the 2008 Women's Baseball World Cup and stayed on the team for eight seasons. In 2018, she became an assistant coach with the team and was later named the team's manager.
In 2019, she was invited to spring training by the Oakland Athletics to work as a special catching instructor, working with the organization's minor leaguers. She had also previously worked with Major League Baseball on organizing baseball tournaments for girls. She was then hired full-time as a roving minor league catching instructor. In August 2022, she was invited to fill in as interim manager of the Class A Lansing Lugnuts while manager Phil Pohl took a week's vacation. She became the A's Coordinator of Player Development, Latin America in 2023.
In 2024, she was named Girls Baseball Ambassador by Major League Baseball.
