Biographical information[edit]
Third baseman Vernon Petty spent ten seasons in the minor leagues, playing in 1942 and from 1946 to 1954. Perhaps his best season was 1952, when he hit .311 with a career-high 39 doubles and 148 hits for the Atlanta Crackers of the Southern Association.
Overall, he hit .279 with 1,192 hits, 243 doubles, 32 triples and 50 home runs in 1,218 games. He also pitched three games, going 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.
His year of birth has also been listed as 1925.[1]
