Van F. McKenzie Sr.
Biographical Information[edit]
Van McKenzie was a sportswriter. He was sports editor at the Ocala Star-Banner by age 17. He later was sports editor at the Orlando Sentinel, New York Daily News, Atlanta Journal-Constitution and St. Petersburg Times. He was president of the Associated Press Sports Editors in 1982-1983. He died in January 27 at age 61 after a battle with cancer. McKenzie won the Red Smith Award in 2007.
