Tampa Bay Times
(Redirected from St. Petersburg Times)
The Tampa Bay Times began life as the St. Petersburg Times, the major newspaper in St. Petersburg, FL, from 1898 to 2011. It is actually even older, tracing its history back to a weekly paper in nearby Hillsborough County that was founded in 1884. In a sense, the change of names on January 1, 2012 was a return to origins, since it emphasized the paper's coverage of the entire metropolitan area. In 2016, it solidified its position by acquiring its long-time competitor, the Tampa Tribune, which ceased publication. The Times is well respected, having won a number of Pulitzer Prizes over its long history.
