Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Victor Mateo played in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays/Rays system from 2007 to 2014. In 2015 and 2016, he played in the Atlanta Braves system. He joined the independent ranks in 2017.

The hurler has had a couple seasons of particular note. In 2009, with the GCL Rays, he posted a 1.98 ERA in 10 games (9 starts) and walked only 9 batters in 50 innings. In 2011, with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Mateo was 12-6 with a complete game, a shutout, a save and a 3.98 ERA in 26 games (20 starts). He joined the Montgomery Biscuits in 2013 and returned for 2014. He was 12-11 with a 3.90 ERA in 28 starts that year. In the Braves system in 2015, he went 10-9 with a 3.41 ERA between two clubs, including his first stint at Triple A. He slumped to 1-3 with a 6.71 mark in 2016. With the independent York Revolution in 2017, Mateo went 6-9 with a 4.38 ERA in 26 starts.

He has thrown two no-hitters at the minor league level. The first came on July 8, 2011, against the Lake County Captains while with the Hot Rods. It was a 7-inning affair. The next occurred on August 24, 2013 against the Jacksonville Suns, while with Montgomery.

He has also played in the Puerto Rico Winter League, Dominican Winter League and Venezuelan Winter League.
