John, welcome aboard ! You may wish to read this page: Notable Achievements. The things you have been added fit better under the biographical section of the pages you're contributing to. It's good stuff, though, so keep at it. --Philippe 10:52, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

Thanks Philippe, I'm a big Pirate fan so that's my main contributions, let me know if you like my stuff. John Lease 19:36, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

re: Ian Snell: my references confirm the temporary change of name, although I don't know the reason behind it. Mischa would be a better help on this, as he knows the Pittsburgh players very well. --Philippe 11:40, 12 June 2008 (EDT)

Another reminder that Notable Achievements are a standardized list and some of the things you are placing there should be in the bio section. - --Mischa 08:09, 16 June 2008 (EDT)

Mischa, can you give me some advice?[edit]

Mischa, do you think mostly career things should go under notable achievements or Bio? Is there another category to use? On my additions to Ed Ott I added the time he rode his bicycle down to spring training from Philadelphia. It's hard to know. I'm still pretty new to this and I'm trying to get better at it. I'm really enjoying adding high school's guys graduated from, that is a pretty empty shell and it's neat seeing multiple guys from the same high school. John Lease 12:37, 16 June 2008 (EDT)

It should go under bio. Click on Notable Achievements to see what exactly goes in there. As it is a standardized list, anything else goes under the bio. - --Mischa 12:43, 16 June 2008 (EDT)

One note about the high schools: There are multiple high schools with the same name. i.e. John F. Kennedy High School. If that is the case, add the city in parenthesis after the name (as in John F. Kennedy High School (Sacramento)) or the state in parenthesis if the school is named after the town. (see Davis High School) --Jeff 20:11, 16 June 2008 (EDT)

The Outmaker is Omar Moreno's nickname. It is not just a derogatory comment. Do a google search for "Omar Moreno" and Outmaker and you get lots of hits. - --Mischa 20:56, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

What, for a year with the Yankees? It's derogatory. He was called The Tentmaker by Bob Prince. John Lease

No one said nicknames are always nice. Look at all the baseball players given nicknames referring to how heavy-set they were. FWIW, Omar made a lot more outs than other players - his .303 career OBP was 27 points below the average for his leagues and ballparks. In addition, hitting leadoff, he came to bat more often, so had more chances to make outs. And he was often caught stealing a lot (33 times, 26 times, 22 times, etc.). He twice led the NL in outs produced, was second once and third once. Considering he only had 7 seasons as an everyday player, that's a lot. Now, I'm not saying Omar was a bad player - just that the nickname fits in his case. Some other guys with negative nicknames are less appropriate. - --Mischa 11:15, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

I saw your comment about Pirate management and wanted to know your opinion. I personally agree with Doug Mientkiewicz and John Grabow that this is the first time the organization has really devoted itself to a rebuilding plan that might work. We don't know, but it's better than the Derek Bell plans of the past. - --Mischa 12:16, 15 September 2009 (EDT)

A couple dozen major leaguers have come from Penn State, not just Tom Lawless - see here - --Mischa 09:07, 1 December 2009 (EST)
