Universidad de Puerto Rico
La Universidad de Puerto Rico, or University of Puerto Rico in English, is the main university on the island of Puerto Rico. It was originally founded in 1903 in as single location, in Rio Piedras, but now has 11 distinct campuses, which are considered as discrete universities that are part of a single system (similar to the University of California model on the U.S. mainland). The first secondary campuses opened in 1967.
The 11 campuses include the following:
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Aguadilla
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Arecibo
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Bayamón
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Carolina
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Cayey
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Humacao
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Ponce
- Universidad de Puerto Rico – Recinto de Río Piedras
- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Utuado
