Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Tylor Megill is the brother of pitcher Trevor Megill, who also made his major league debut in 2021. In his first game, Trevor was the starting pitcher for the New York Mets against the Atlanta Braves on June 23rd. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs, and was not involved in the decision as the Mets won, 7-3. He had a decent rookie season overall, going 4-6, 4.52 in 18 starts with 99 strikeouts in 89 2/3 innings.
On April 7, 2022, he was the unexpected Opening Day starter for the Mets, an honor that should normally have gone to either Jacob deGrom of Max Scherzer but both were unavailable due to injury. He made the best of the opportunity, giving up no runs in 5 innings against the Washington Nationals to receive credit for the 5-1 win. On April 29th, he improved to 4-0 on the year with five hitless innings in a start against the Philadelphia Phillies, which turned into a combined no-hitter as four relievers also did not allow a hit in the 3-0 win.
He is the first major league player to have the first name "Tylor"; there have been plenty of players whose first name was "Tyler" or "Taylor", however.
