Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Tyler Locklear was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 2nd round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of Virginia Commonwealth University. He was outstanding in college, being named an All-American at third base in 2021, and making the All-Championship team of the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament in both 2021 and 2022, also being named tournament MVP the second year. He hit .345 and .402, respectively, during the season those two years.

He started his professional career in 2022 with the ACL Mariners, then was promoted to the Modesto Nuts after just two games, combining to hit .285 with 7 homers and 31 RBIs in 31 games. In 2023, he was mainly with the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League, but was also back in the Arizona Complex League for a couple of games on a rehabilitation assignment, and finished the year in AA with the Arkansas Travelers. Overall, he appeared in 85 games and hit .288/.405/.502. He was named a Northwest League postseason All-Star and also played in the Arizona Fall League's Future Stars Game after playing in the circuit after the season.

He continued his quick climb through the system in 2024 as he started the year by hitting .291 and slugging .532 in 41 games at Arkansas. He was promoted to the AAA Tacoma Rainiers on May 28th, then after just 10 games there, during which he hit .300, he received a call to come to Seattle when starting 1B Ty France went on the injured list on June 9th. he made his debut that day starting at first base and hitting 7th against the Kansas City Royals. He went 1 for 4 in a 6-5 win, his first major league being a double off Will Klein in the 7th inning that drove in Mitch Haniger and put Seattle in the lead; he then came in to score on a single by Josh Rojas.
