Biographical Information

Cecil Washington Tyson was called both Turkey Tyson and Slim Tyson, apparently because of his size. He played one game for the 1944 Philadelphia Blue Jays at age 29. He was both born in and died in Elm City, NC. Only one other player, Vance Page, was born in Elm City, NC - Page came to the National League a few years before Tyson.

He is one of three major league players with the last name Tyson.

Tyson managed four years in the minors. 1948 and 1952 he managed the Rocky Mount Leafs in the Coastal Plain League. In 1950, he managed the Rockingham Eagles. In 1951 he managed the Colonial Heights-Petersburg Generals in the Virginia League. His minor league playing career was 15 years, and he had a batting average over .300.
