Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Troyce Cofer played in the minor leagues from 1940 to 1941, in 1946 and from 1948 to 1949.

He hit .241/?/.333 and fielded .938 at 2B in 1940 for the Ocala Yearlings and St. Augustine Saints. Perhaps his best year was 1941, when he hit .302 with 110 hits in 91 games for the Charleston Rebels. He entered the US Army in 1943 to serve in World War II and served in the 265th Engineers Combat Division in Belgium, Germany and Austria.

He was discharged from the Army in 1946 and played part of the year for the Macon Peaches (.223 AVG, .261 SLG). He worked at GM and Coca-Cola in Atlanta, GA while playing at an amateur level. He returned to the pro ranks in '48, playing for the Rome Colonels (.225/?/.337 in 26 G) and AAA Buffalo Bisons (.200/.291/.232 in 67 G). With Buffalo, he backed up Cy Block at 3B, Johnny Bero at 2B and players like Johnny Groth and Coaker Triplett in the outfield. In 1949, he was 7 for 35 with a double for the Atlanta Crackers.

Overall, he hit .251 with 322 hits in 358 games over 5 seasons.

After baseball, he worked at Atlantic Steel then was in the termite control business for 25 years. He and his wife Agnes were married for 72 years.
