Biographical Information[edit]
Second baseman Torre Tyson, the son of former major leaguer Mike Tyson, was signed as a free agent by the Boston Red Sox in 1998. He played for the GCL Red Sox in 1998-1999 and the River City Rascals in 1999. Signed by the New York Yankees, he made the South Atlantic League All-Star team in 2000 for the Greensboro Bats. Tyson played for the Tampa Yankees and Norwich Navigators in both 2001 and 2002, while also playing outfield.
Tyson was a coach for the Staten Island Yankees in 2003, and hitting coach for the GCL Yankees in 2004 and the Charleston River Dogs in 2005-2006. In 2007, he got his first shot as a manager with Charleston. After the season he worked as the hitting coach for the Honolulu Sharks in the Hawaii Winter League. In 2008, Tyson guided the RiverDogs to an 80-59 overall record, tying the franchise record for victories in a single season. After three years in Charleston, Tyson moved to the Tampa Yankees where he led the team to their second consecutive Florida State League championship. This was Tyson's first title as a manager. The Yankees promoted Tyson in 2011 to Minor League Defensive Coordinator, a role he reprised in 2012. Tyson joined the Baltimore Orioles organization as the hitting coach for the Frederick Keys in 2013-2014.
Tyson left coaching in 2015 and joined the Scott Boras Corporation. He was employed there at least into 2021, and possibly later.
