After a year without a Western League team, Topeka, KS re-entered the loop in 1918 with the Topeka Kaw-nees. While the club did well on the field, they struggled at the gate and with a record of 19-13, moved to Hutchinson, KS on June 2 to become the Hutchinson Salt Packers. Overall, the club was second in the league at 37-31. The main star was Jesse Haines, who led the WL in ERA (1.59) and wins (13), while he was second with 71 strikeouts.
