Biographical Information[edit]

Tony Welzer, born in Germany, pitched two years for the Boston Red Sox, both times for teams that lost over 100 games. In 1926, he was the only pitcher on the team who had a winning record. In 1927, he slipped under .500 and nobody on the team had a winning record.

Welzer was victimized by some of the greatest. On April 26, 1927, Ty Cobb stole home on him. On September 6th of the same year, Lou Gehrig hit a home run off Welzer and Babe Ruth hit two off him, later hitting a third off Jack Russell.
