Biographical Information[edit]
Tony Rensa made a real career out of playing baseball. His pro career stretched from 1925 to 1949, a period of 25 seasons. He was in the majors for six years, always as a catcher, appearing for four different teams. Most of his at-bats came with the Chicago White Sox form 1937 to 1939. When given a chance at age 31 with the New York Yankees in 1933, he outhit teammate Babe Ruth, which is to say that Tony hit .310 in eight games while the Babe hit .301 (although with quite a lot more power and walks).
Rensa's minor league career took him to many towns, often in the East. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Fort Worth Panthers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Albany Senators, the Dallas Steers, the Little Rock Travelers and others. He also managed for several seasons in the minors.
