Biographical Information

North Carolina native Tony Daniels spent eleven seasons in professional baseball from 1942 to 1953. The infielder spent part of one season in the Major Leagues from June 12 to September 16, 1945 with the Philadelphia Phillies. He appeared in 76 games with the Phillies, hitting at an even .200 average and fielding at a .955 percentage. This was the sum-total for his time in the big leagues.

Daniels spent ten seasons in the minor leagues and in six of them he hit over the .300 mark. His two best performances appeared to be with the 1948 Anniston Rams of the class B Southeastern League when he hit .328 with 13 home runs and the 1951 year when he hit .359 with 15 home runs for the Mooresville Moors of the class D North Carolina State League.

Tony left the game after the 1953 season with minor league career figures that showed he hit at a .315 average while appearing in 901 games and 3,396 at-bats with 1,076 base-hits that included 45 home runs.

Daniels served with the United States Marines during World War II. After baseball he returned to his native North Carolina where he worked and lived until his death at the age of 81 on July 23, 2005 in Statesville, NC.
