Biographical Information[edit]
Tony Cougoule graduated from Mount Mercy University in 2004 with a degree in business administration and management. He went on to earn a master's degree in health and physical education/fitness in 2007 from Azusa Pacific University.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Cougoule began an extended career as a college coach. He was an assistant coach at Mount Mercy in 2005, at Azusa Pacific in 2006-2007, and at Southeastern Community College in 2008-2009. Cougoule moved to Westmont College in the summer of 2009 and served as the pitching coach through 2019 under head coach Robert Ruiz with whom he had coached at Azusa Pacific. In addition, Cougoule worked as the pitching coach for the 2016 Santa Barbara Foresters, a summer collegiate baseball team in the California Collegiate League.
In 2020, the Chicago Cubs hired Cougoule to be the AZL Cubs Red pitching coach before COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the minor league season. He was pitching coach of the South Bend Cubs in 2021-2022. Cougoule took on a broader role in 2023 as the Cubs' Arizona complex pitching coordinator. He returned to on-field coaching in 2024 as the pitching coach for the Iowa Cubs.
