Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Tony Cappuccilli played college ball with the University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack and graduated in 2003. He spent the following summer playing for the Florence Freedom in the independent Frontier League. Cappuccilli earned a masters degreee in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2010.

His first coaching job was an assistant coaching position at his alma mater Edison High School in 2004. Cappuccilli spent the next year as the head coach at Trout Lake High School in Trout Lake, WA. He returned to Edison as an assistant coach in 2006 and remained there through the 2009 season. Cappuccilli helped the Chargers to league championships in 2007 and 2009.

In mid-2009 Cappuccilli moved up to the college coaching ranks where he stayed for several years in various positions. He was an assistant coach for the Irvine Valley College Lasers from 2010-2013. In 2014, he was a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Runnin' Rebels. He only stayed there one year before moving to Mountain West Conference rival, the University of New Mexico. Cappuccilli was a volunteer assistant coach for the Lobos from 2015-2017 where he helped the team to Conference championships in 2015 and 2016 and a NCAA Regional appearance in 2016. During this period, he also spent several summers coaching in college wooden bat leagues.

In August 2017, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as a minor league coach. Cappuccilli coached the AZL Dodgers in 2018 and one of the AZL teams in 2019 (listed with AZL Dodgers Lasorda). He was slated to manage the Ogden Raptors in 2020 before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Cappuccilli managed the ACL Dodgers in 2021 to conclude his work in the Dodgers organization.

The Detroit Tigers hired Cappuccilli in 2022 as a bench coach for the Toledo Mud Hens, a role he repeated in 2023. The Tigers promoted him to manager of the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2024 where he remained in 2025.
