Biographical Information[edit]

After graduating from Oak Creek High School in the Milwaukee suburbs, pitcher Tony Butler was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2006 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Joe Bohringer and made his pro debut that summer and went 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 14 games, split between the AZL Mariners and the Everett Aqua Sox. He spent the next year with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, going 4-7 with a 4.75 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 20 games, including a complete game shutout on August 26th against the Burlington Bees.

Prior to the 2008 season, Butler was traded with George Sherrill, Kam Mickolio, Chris Tillman and Adam Jones to the Baltimore Orioles for Erik Bedard. With the Delmarva Shorebirds that year, he was 3-4 with a 4.42 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 12 appearances. The next year, he pitched in 11 games, all out of the bullpen, splitting time between the GCL Orioles and the Aberdeen IronBirds.
