Biographical Information[edit]
Tommy Boggs pitched back-to-back complete games on August 17 and 22 in his first season as a major league pitcher for the Texas Rangers, but was saddled with a loss both times, against the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians. It was typical of his time in Texas, as he went a combined 1-10 in his two seasons with the team in 1976 and 1977.
The second overall pick of the 1974 draft, Tommy was another in a long line of vaunted young Ranger arms that failed to stick. He was peddled to the Atlanta Braves as part of a massive multi-player, multi-team deal before the 1978 season. In 1980, still just 24, he came through with a 12-9, 3.42 season for the Braves in 32 games (26 starts). The next season, 1981 he sunk to 3-13, 4.10 and made only 19 more big league appearances in the next four seasons.
Boggs became the head coach at Concordia University at Austin for the 2010 season and remained in the position until his death from cancer at age 66 in 2022.
