Tom Zachary Field

Tom Zachary Field is located behind what is currently Graham Middle School (formerly Graham High School) in Tom Zachary's hometown of Graham, NC. The park is owned and used by the school system and by local American Legion teams.

It is the former home park of the Burlington-Graham Pirates of the Carolina League from 1952-1955.

A plaque at the field reads:

"Jonathan Thompson Walton 'Tom' Zachary May 7, 1896 To January 24, 1969

Tom Zachary, an Alamance County and Graham native, played professional major league baseball from 1918 to 1936. During this time he represented Philadelphia, Washington, St. Louis, New York, Boston and Brooklyn. In 1924 he won two World Series games for the Washington Senators. In 1928 he pitched a perfect season with 12 wins and then won the third game of the World Series for the New York Yankees. He pitched 553 games with a record of 186 wins, 191 losses and an ERA of 3.72 in 3134 inning. Mr. Zachary is also known for pitching the 60th home run ball to Babe Ruth in 1927. Mr. Zachary gave this land to the county school system in 1949.
