Biographical Information

The brother of Rick Wise, Tom Wise played five seasons in the minor leagues, reaching AA. He was taken in the 9th round of the 1970 amateur draft by the Houston Astros.

Wise debuted in 1970 with the Covington Astros (.281/~.431/.491 in 23 games, .870 fielding in the outfield) and Williamsport Astros (.275/~.356/.363 in 24 games, .833 fielding in the outfield). In 1971, Tom batted .270/~.426/.452 for the Cocoa Astros. His 88 walks ranked fifth in the Florida State League. Wise moved to first base, but defense continued to be a problem as he made 16 errors.

In 1972, Tom was primarily a bench player, hitting .231/~.338/.281 in 199 AB over 70 games. The next year, he made it to AA with the Columbus Astros and produced at a .262/~.347/.343 clip as the club's most-used third baseman (65 games). In his last season, Wise hit .258/~.351/.392 in 103 contests for Columbus, playing both corner infield slots regularly.
