Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Verducci is a sportswriter and broadcaster. Having grown up in the New York, NY area, he joined the staff of Newsday in 1983, where he became a sports columnist, specializing in baseball. In 1993, he became a regular contributor to Sports Illustrated, gaining a national reputation. He was one of the most prominent writers on SI.com, the magazine's online edition, and became a regular guest on sports talk shows, including the Dan Patrick Show. He is a regular guest on MLB Tonight.
He co-authored Joe Torre's autobiography, The Yankee Years, which came out in 2010. In 2014, he and former player Harold Reynolds were named by FOX to replace the retired Tim McCarver as analysts teaming with Joe Buck on their main baseball broadcast team. The partnership lasted for two seasons, but Verducci and Reynolds were replaced by John Smoltz heading into the 2016 season. In early 2017, he published the book The Cubs Way, about the team's historic 2016 season. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, he wrote a lengthy piece for Sports Illustrated inspired by the 1918 season of the Boston Red Sox, a season that was also shaken by a pandemic, that one being influenza. It was a work of fiction, but inspired by real-life events echoing in the present. In 2022, he co-authored Joe Maddon's autobiography, The Book of Joe.
