Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Selleck was the star of the movie Mr. Baseball in 1992. His most noted role is the lead in the television series "Magnum, P.I.", in which he was often seen sporting a Detroit Tigers cap. He was born and had grown up in Detroit, MI and his favorite player was Al Kaline.
While preparing the baseball movie, he attended spring training to work out with the Tigers in 1991 and actually got into a Grapefruit League game on April 3rd when manager Sparky Anderson inserted him as a pinch-hitter against Tim Layana of the Cincinnati Reds in the 8th inning. He managed to foul off three pitches before striking out, not loooking out of place at all.
