Biographical Information[edit]

Beckerman was picked by the New York Mets in the 21st round of the 1992 amateur draft; he was chosen between Aaron Guiel and Larry Sutton, an impressive sandwich for the 21st round. He had an impressive pro debut, going 0-3 with 5 saves and a 1.38 ERA for the Pittsfield Mets. In 1993, he was better yet - with the Capital City Bombers (5-1, 10 Sv, 0.90, 41 K in 30 IP) and St. Lucie Mets (2-0, 14 Sv, 0.38, 28 K, 2 BB in 23 2/3 IP) - posting a combined ERA of 0.67, a 7-1 record and 24 saves. He led Mets farmhands in saves. He spent 1994 with the Binghamton Mets, looking human at 3-5, 3.86 with 19 saves. He was then traded with Juan Castillo to the Houston Astros for Pete Harnisch. Injury derailed his career and he only pitched three games for the 1995 GCL Astros (1 H, 3 K in 3 IP) before ending his time as a pro. His career ERA was just 2.15.
