Biographical Information[edit]

Tirso de Anda pitched in the early days of the Mexican League. The first season for which statistics are available is 1937; he was 7-3 with a 3.32 ERA for Mexico City Agricultura on a team whose other hurlers were 5-10. He tied for 6th in the league in wins. He pitched for the Mexican national team in the 1938 Central American and Caribbean Games; while technically open to amateurs, Mexico often sent baseball teams of pros during those years.

In 1938, he was 5-2 with a 1.85 ERA and .94 WHIP for the champion Rojos del Águila de Veracruz. He former a dominant staff with Martin Dihigo and Silvio Garcia, both of whom had better ERAs; de Ana did have one of the league's best ERAs, ahead of the likes of Chet Brewer and Satchel Paige.

De Anda was 4-2 with a 4.39 ERA for Veracruz in 1939, with Barney Brown and Dihigo getting pretty much all the work. He did not appear in 1940-1941 and was 0-1 with a 11.57 ERA in one game for the 1942 Diablos Rojos del Mexico. For the 1937-1942 period, his record was 16-8, 3.29 in 33 games.
