The New Yorker

The New Yorker is a weekly magazine published in New York, NY ostensibly about the goings-on in the "Big Apple". It was founded in 1925 and quickly gained a national reputation for the quality of its writing, both fiction and non-fiction. Some of the greatest writers of the past century have seen their short stories published in The New Yorker, including James Thurber, John Cheever, Vladimir Nabokov, J.D. Salinger, John Updike and Alice Munro. Its non-fiction content is quite eclectic, ranging from politics to current events to scientific topics and profiles of various celebrities.

The New Yorker's baseball coverage over the years has been highlighted by the work of Roger Angell, winner of the Hall of Fame's J.G. Taylor Spink Award for baseball writing, but also a variety of other articles including profiles of players and other personalities around the game. George Plimpton was another sportswriter whose work was sometimes published in the magazine.
