George Ames Plimpton

George Plimpton was an American journalist and author. He was known for his participatory journalism, including pitching batting practice at the 1959 All-Star Game, practicing with both the NFL's Detroit Lions and in goal for the Boston Bruins, and sparring with boxing champion Archie Moore.

He was an active journalist for more than fifty years most notably with Sports Illustrated and The New Yorker. Plimpton had a cameo in the film Good Will Hunting. His most famous baseball works are the book Out of my League which detailed his experience pitching at the All-Star Game and The Curious Case of Sidd Finch, an April Fools Day prank pulled in 1985.

Plimpton was also featured in Ken Burns' Baseball.
