Biographical Information[edit]
Edward "Tex" Hoffman played 20 seasons in the minors, coming to the big leagues for nine games with the Cleveland Indians in 1915. He was primarily a pinch-hitter with the Indians but appeared three times in the field. Six of his nine games were against the Washington Senators.
Tex was born in San Antonio, TX, and while he did not play minor league ball in Texas early in his minor league career, he did spend six seasons with the Waco Navigators and the Fort Worth Panthers in the middle of his career. He had moderate power in the minors, with a high of 21 home runs with the 1926 Shreveport Sports. While records are not complete, his highest batting average appears to have been .322, compiled for the 1920 Fort Worth Panthers - it was the highest batting average among the team regulars, and he also led the team in triples, home runs and SLG.
He also managed four seasons in the minors, mostly with the Tallahassee Capitals.
