Biographical Information[edit]

Tetsuro Kato was a first-round pick of the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 1982 NPB draft. He made his Pacific League debut in 1983, allowing 3 runs in 4 innings. He was 0-1 in 1984, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 6 runs in just 1 1/3 IP.

Kato was 0-4 with a 3.92 ERA in 23 games in 1986, then 0-2 with a 6.18 ERA in 38 outings in 1987. In 31 games in 1988, Tetsuro went 3-3 with a save and a 3.47 ERA.

Kato pitched 24 games for the Buffaloes in 1989 and was 7-2 with a save and a 3.83 ERA. In the 1989 Japan Series, he allowed 3 runs (1 earned) in 10 innings. He won game three of the Series but lost game seven to Isao Koda and the Yomiuri Giants.

Kato only pitched one game in 1990, allowing one run in three innings. He was 6-0 with 3 saves and a 3.11 ERA in 21 games in 1991 but gave up 8 runs in 9 innings in 1992. He did not pitch the next year. Signing with the Hiroshima Carp for 1994, he was 1-0 with a 7.45 ERA in 7 games. Released by the Carp, he signed with the Daiei Hawks but did not pitch for that club in 1995 then retired. He later became a baseball commentator.
