Biographical Information[edit]

Teruo Owaki pitched for seven seasons for the Kokutetsu Swallows.

Owaki pitched for Nagoya Tetsuda Kanrikyoku in the industrial leagues before turning pro. He went 8-16 with a 3.73 ERA as a rookie for the Swallows in 1952, then had a 2-9, 3.27 record in reduced action in 1953 and 6-8, 3.47 in 1954. Owaki improved to 9-6, 2.67 in 1955.

He slipped to 4-13, 3.16 in 1956 but had his career game on May 3. In the second game of a doubleheader with the Chunichi Dragons, he threw the second no-hitter in Swallows history (Masaichi Kaneda had tossed the first). He walked two and did not strike out any, the only Nippon Pro Baseball no-hitter (through 2010) in which the pitcher had no whiffs.

Owaki was 5-12 with a 3.25 ERA in 1957 then ended his career with a 1-7, 3.55 season in 1958. Overall, he was 35-71 with a 3.30 ERA in 223 games for Kokutetsu.
