Biographical Information[edit]

Terry Shrader was signed by the Fort Smith Giants out of high school but his contract was voided as the Western Association had a "no rookie" rule. [1] He went 15 for 75 with no extra-base hits for the 1941 Miami Wahoos. He then played for Eastern Air (based out of Miami), which served as Team USA for the 1942 Amateur World Series. [2] While it seems odd that someone with pro experience would play in an amateur-only event, it was not unheard of during that time - one of his teammates was Lewis Womack, who had also played pro ball, while Mexico routinely used pros in the 1930s and 1940s (having to withdraw from the 1935 Central American and Caribbean Games for that reason), Hawaii had Herbert North in the 1940 Amateur World Series, etc. The problem persisted for a couple more decades - Team Canada had to forfeit a win from the 1967 Pan American Games for having four former pros on their roster, while Australia used Sidney Thompson in the 1975 Asian Championship.
