Biographical Information[edit]

Terry Craven, who graduated from Arvin High School in 1961 and Bakersfield College in 1963 before becoming a standout baseball player at San Fernando Valley State College (now known as Cal State Northridge), was the Matadors' first baseball All-American when he played his only season for the school in 1965. He led the team in batting and RBIs and his 12 home runs led the nation.

He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 20th round of the 1965 amateur draft, which was the very first amateur draft to be held. He played in the Phillies system in 1965 and 1966, hitting .209 in 36 games for the Bakersfield Bears of the California League the first year, and .194 in 37 games for the Spartanburg Phillies of the Western Carolinas League the second. He was an outfielder.

Craven spent 14 years as an assistant under Bob Hiegert before becoming head coach for California State University, Northridge following the 1984 season; he held the job for four seasons. He also served as a football assistant coach for five seasons for the Matadors. In 2010, Craven was voted into the Cal State Northridge Hall of Fame.
