Biographical Information[edit]
An NFL cornerback who was picked 5th overall in the football draft in 1992 and had 50 career interceptions, Terrell Buckley also played professional baseball for one season. Taken in the 38th round of the 1992 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves, Buckley spent the 1993 season with the Macon Braves. An outfielder, he hit .196/~.289/.243 in 42 games, with 30 strikeouts in 107 AB. He stole 9 bases in 15 attempts. Calling himself the Jim Thorpe of the second half-century, he was promptly criticized for his performance, especially when he started slowly. He responded "A lot of uneducated people really bug when they say 'You hit .118 or .120.' A lot of guys made a lot of great catches... I can hit."
Buckley tried his hand with the independent Mobile BaySharks in 1994. He hit .202 with 2 doubles in 99 at-bats with his only pro homer.
