November 16: Today's featured birthday is that of Hector Fajardo, who turns 54.
- 1943 - 16-year-old Carl Scheib appears in a game, becoming the youngest performer in the history of the American League.
- 1981 - Fernando Valenzuela (pictured) flings his 7th shutout to tie the National League record for rookies.
- 1995 - Cal Ripken Jr. plays in his 2,131st game in a row, breaking Lou Gehrig's major league record for consecutive games played. Ripken goes 2 for 4 with a homer in front of a sold-out crowd. Next in line is Sachio Kinugasa's world record.
- 1996 - Eddie Murray smashes his 500th home run in the major leagues, the 15th player to do that. He is just the third player with both 3,000 hits and 500 homers.
- 2000 - Scott Sheldon plays every position in a game, becoming the third player in major league history to have accomplished that feat.
